Information for clients

re: Coronavirus outbreak 2020

I am currently following the advice of the government, the NHS and BACP (my professional body).

If you have a cough or high temperature or any flu like symptoms, or suspect that you have the virus or have travelled back from a high risk country or have been in contact with a person who has contracted the virus then please do not attend counselling in person, but let me know.

Equally, if I have been in contact with a person who has contracted the virus, I shall self-isolate. In this case, or if I develop a cough, temperature or flu symptoms, I shall notify you immediately by email or text message. I may be obliged to inform the NHS of people I’ve been in contact with, which would mean sharing your name and contact details but not the context in which I know you. However, you may be contacted by the NHS as a result.

If I am unable to contact you personally, my next-of-kin, who is bound by confidentiality, will be provided with a list of my clients’ names and contact details and will be in touch.

Under any circumstances, a sudden break in counselling is undesirable from a therapeutic point of view. I recommend that, if you are self-isolating and are well enough, we arrange the continuation of counselling by telephone. This would take place at your usual time and the call would last for 50 minutes.

Your health and the well-being of those around you are of primary importance. If you are unable to continue counselling in person or by telephone as a result of the outbreak there will be no charge for missed sessions and your slot will be protected. I hope that we shall be able to continue before long.

Until this period of uncertainty is over, I shall not be taking on any new clients.

Thank you for your co-operation, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
